Ross joined Warwickshire Police in 2000 and has undertaken various roles during his 25 years' service. For 15 years he was an Authorised Firearms Officer and is currently a Strategic Firearms Commander.
Ross has been the NPCC Staff Officer to the National Vetting portfolio for nearly ten years, chairing the National Vetting Tasking group and was the Programme Director for the national Policing response to the 43 recommendations from the HMIC Thematic Inspection on Vetting, Misconduct and Misogyny in the police service. He is now the National Police Vetting Thematic Silver Lead for the response to the Angiolini Inquiry and is leading on national vetting reform.
Ross has developed a real flair for academia and evidence-based policing; in 2018 completing a degree in Policing and Criminal Justice, obtaining first class honours; a masters in Criminal Psychology in 2022 and is now undertaking a Doctorate in Criminology with the University of Leicester.
Ross is an advocate for disability and has recently won a national award for his work around neurodiversity in policing. Ross is also the National Inclusion Representee for Disability for the Police Superintendents Association.
